HF InterferenceThe New Zealand Intruder watch service has an estimated location for the wideband radar signal which has been wreaking havoc to the 40 and 80m bands of late. WIA Director and National Intruder Watch coordinator Glenn Dunstan VK4DU
said: "Bearings received from Sabah, Japan and New Zealand estimate
the source of the interference to be in the vicinity of the Paracel Islands,
off the Chinese coast. Further bearings are needed to confirm this location".
"The two meter band is often plagued by interference from long range cordless telephones, particularly in capital cities. Some of these illegal devices have even turned up on the input frequencies of local repeaters - with predictable results." "As VHF/UHF interference is localised in nature, the most effective
way to deal with cases of non-amateur interference to VHF/UHF amateur
frequencies is to immediately pass the details to your local ACMA office.
The ACMA will need to know the frequency of the interference, the duration
and nature. " Glenn said. Source: Wireless Institute of Australia
