Introducing the IC-V82 - High power VHF Handheld with Digital Capability

Icom announces the debut of the IC-V82, a new high power 7W VHF Amateur Radio handheld transceiver with optional digital capabilities.

The introduction of an optional UT-118 digital unit provides users not only digital voice and data communication with other compatible IC-V82 and IC-2200H VHF mobile units but position exchange as well.

Featuring a durable, modern design, the IC-V82 is an ideal transceiver for newcomers to Amateur Radio or those users seeking an easy to use 2 Metre handportable.

The IC-V82 has a 5 character alphanumeric LCD to show a variety of functions including S-meter, output power, power save, key-lock, tone and duplex. A backlit LCD allows the screen features to be seen in low light conditions.

The IC-V82 has 207 memory channels complete with the capability of programmable features for each, such as subaudible tone encoding, tone squelch, repeater offset and the ability to give channels names for easy identification.

The IC-V82 has the essential features that are now common in Icom's range of Amateur Radio products including built in CTCSS and DTCS tones for quiet standby and repeater access and 16 DTMF memory channels. With the optional UT-108* the IC-V82 offers the ability to use DTMF touchtones as a message pager to allow calls to be heard by particular radios.

Perhaps the most exciting new feature of the IC-V82 is its digital capability. The IC-V82 has a special socket to accept the optional UT-118* digital unit that provides for simultaneous digital voice and data (up to 20 character short data message can be sent) providing a new level of capability and versatility to the Amateur Radio user. Other digital features include:

• Position exchange that allows the exchange of information with other stations when connected to an external GPS receiver (NMEA 0183 format) and computer.

• Callsign function that displays your callsign and the received callsign in each transmission.
• Callsign squelch giving you the option to choose an incoming call selected by callsign.

The IC-V82 has a suggested retail price of £176.19 (inc.VAT) and is supplied with a charger, rechargeable Ni-Cd battery, antenna, belt clip, comprehensive handbook and two-year warranty. A comprehensive list of accessories is available.

Ian Lockyer, Marketing Manager at Icom (UK) Ltd said, 'With its basic features and optional digital technology, the IC-V82 is a durable, high quality handheld transceiver, one that any Amateur both experienced or novice would enjoy having in their shack or in the field.'

* Please note that only one of these units may be fitted.
