Peter I DXpedition 3Y0X, 2006

As you may know, the big international DXpedition 3Y0Y failed to reach Peter I Island earlier this year due to problems with the chartered ship and helicopter.

The avid DXers led by Ralph Fedor, K0IR and Bob Allphin, K4UEE did not give up, they just postponed it regardless of the great financial loss. A press release from the team co-leaders says that the Peter 1 DXpedition is scheduled for early 2006.

Contracts have been signed with two Chilean companies to provide a vessel and helicopter during January/February 2006. The actual dates of the operation will be released on or about September 1, 2005, but the general time frame will be between January 16 and the end of February, 2006. The actual dates depend on the vessel scheduling and weather considerations.

It is the team’s objective to be at Peter I for a minimum of two weeks with the actual operating time to be determined by weather and set-up time. Because of the likelihood of it being a very long time before Peter I will be activated again, they have set some very high QSO goals. Nine stations will be established on the island on all bands 160-10 meters, on the most common communication modes.

Most of the members of the 2005 team will participate in the 2006 DXpedition, but there are several slots available for new team members. Contact either K4UEE or K0IR for more information. This adventure is not for the faint-hearted!
