Remembrance Day contest logs

Well G'Day everybody. So we all survived the Remembrance Day Contest last weekend?

Well, that's great. let's hope the contest manager survives the scoring procedure with bonus points for distance to take into account.

I'd like to don my Contest Manager hat for a moment and thank those of you who made the effort to actually go to air last weekend and hand out a few numbers. A couple of comments included with the logs have been from first-time entrants who really enthused about how much fun they'd had. This is what I've been trying to tell you. Any contest with a lot of participants should be fun. Challenging, but fun.

You may be as surprised as I was to see that the first logs started rolling in while the contest was actually still on the air. By the end of the first day alone we had about 50 entries, and they've kept rolling in ever since. I'd encourage entry by E-mail. Apart from anything else, you get a return E-mail to confirm your entry has safely arrived.

You have some time yet before the final cut-off deadline for logs, but I suppose I can tell you that the majority of logs received thus far are actually from VK4. Yes, in terms of the number of logs received at the time of writing, it's the VK4s who have gritted their teeth and got stuck into it.

My advice, for those who may be at all confused with the scoring system, is simply to send in your log and let me calculate the final point score. I've overlaid a GPS mapping program with current VK call book data to let the computer work out expected distances. May as well let the computer earn its keep.

From listening around the bands last weekend, I'd reckon that so far we have logs from only about five per cent of participants if we're lucky. As this one pits state against state, it could well be that your home states reputation could end up in tatters if you don't get your log in, and pronto.

If it's on computer, as a word processor or spreadsheet document, as a Cabrillo text file or perhaps something a little more esoteric, just send it in and be counted. Forget the postage and the fancy presentation, because you get no bonus points for them. Just send it in and let your state hold its head high.

If you use E-mail, try this address:
rd@wia.org.au or to either vk3ce or vk4aa at wia.org.au

Cheers from Chris, VK4AA
