TOWERS OF POWER -
TV ANTENNAS ON STEROIDS

The four towers planned for a U.S. radio ham in Clarkesburg may stand out from their surroundings, but county officials say the structures are just as permissible as swimming pools and sheds.

Permitting services specialist David Niblock said that in issuing the permit for the four ham radio towers, which will each be about 190 feet tall, he followed the same checklist he would use for a resident building a swimming pool, detached garage or shed. Like those more common
structures, the towers are allowable accessory uses in the zone.

Niblock said "I wouldn't want this next to or across the street from me either but sometimes we end up being a bureaucrat whether we want to or not and if the laws are not there, I have to do what the laws allow."

One neighbour in this rural community has likened the 4 by 190 ft towers as TV Antennas on Steroids!
