A message from Icom UK
The Adventures of Zack and Max.
Issue 3 Maddy Goes to England
Last
year Icom UK were involved in producing an Amateur Radio Comic for the
English market.
It was named 'The Adventures of Zack and Max' and was produced
to encourage younger people and newcomers into the hobby. It was a resounding
success as clubs and societies throughout the UK snapped up copies.
Feedback has suggested that it has helped get new people into the hobby.
A second comic was produced by Icom America and it became Icom America's
highest ever website download. We didnt get involved in producing
a UK version as it was felt that the subject matter was not quite suitable
for the UK.
A third comic is now being produced which will hopefully be a joint effort
between students in America and the UK. Volume 3 will be called 'Maddy
Goes To England' and it is hoped that 10-12 year old radio amateurs
will write and draw selected panels of the comic. So what I am looking
for now is to see if any club in the UK is interested in being involved.
The deadline is flexible...although the editor would like to have it
done by December 2004 if possible. The editor is David Condon and
he is not a representative of ICOM. He is a teacher of 9-10 year olds
in a public school. If you have seen the Bill Nye Science series from
Disney, the section on waves is from his classroom.
The basic appeal for the students in this project on both the US and
UK side is that they will have written a comic book, like volume 2, that
is viewed both in the UK and US. Also there is a huge public relations
opportunity for participating clubs from both sides of the Atlantic.
Any interested club should contact the Marketing Manager at Icom (UK)
Ltd via email at marketing@icomuk.co.uk.
