Anglia TV Programme on Offshore Radio

Tuesday's Anglia TV's Tonight programme carried an item on Offshore Radio which was outlawed 40 years ago to protect the monopoly of the state controlled broadcasting company.

The Anglia Tonight programme covered the early days of Offshore Radio along with coverage of BBC Essex's commemoration of those days in the form of Pirate BBC Essex run from a ship moored off Harwich.

Several Radio Amateurs worked as Radio Engineers onboard the offshore stations and played a vital role in keeping the transmitters on the air.
