Dragonfly will carry an FM VHF-UHF repeater

Dragonfly -
an innovative Amateur Radio Cubesat project

Dragonfly is a Solar Sail cubesat project which will also feature an FM VHF-UHF repeater.

The project is a partnership of 3 associations: AMSAT-F, the U3P and V.O.Y.Sat.

The satellite measures 30 cm by 10 cm with a total mass of 3 kg. It is three times the length of standard cubesats which are 10 cm cubes. The electronics will occupy a third of the satellite with the rest housing the Solar Sail.

Solar Sails make use of photonic propulsion to propel a spacecraft and Dragonfly could be the first Solar Sail project to deploy and successfully fly in space.

In addition to the Solar Sail Dragonfly will carry an Amateur Radio FM VHF-UHF repeater and 2 small 300K pixels cameras to take photographs to check the deployment of the Solar Sail.

The AMSAT-F website says it is planned to present a complete functional model of Dragonfly at the International Congress of Astronautics in Hyderabad in India which takes place from the 24 to 28th September 2007.
