Ofcom 10 GHz Auction statement

On Tuesday Ofcom published an Information Memorandum on the future award of spectrum in the 10 - 40 GHz band. The document can be found at http://www.ofcom.org.uk/radiocomms/spectrumawards/
awardspending/award_10_40/

The consultation drew a considerable response from Radio Amateurs which Ofcom acknowledge in Para 2.5

"A large number of amateur radio licensees suggested that the proposal to award the available spectrum at 10 GHz did not take account of planned amateur satellite use and contravened internationally agreed spectrum use. Some also
suggested that the proposed power levels would interfere with weak satellite signals."

Para 1.3 of the report details a change for 10 GHz:

"The licences will be technology and application neutral, except for licences for 10 GHz frequencies, which will be restricted to fixed systems and wireless cameras."

and Para 5.10 has a worrying change as it suggests relaxing the block edge mask which could result in increased interference to the Amateur 10 GHz allocation.

Amateur Radio use of 10 GHz is covered in Paras 3.8, 5.8 and 5.9
