HogCon 2008 - Stevenage 21st September

The upsurge of interest in QRP operation has resulted in the formation of the Home Counties QRP Circle who are holding their first meeting in Stevenage on 21st September.

QRP operation is rapidly growing in popularity with operators such as Aki JQ2UOZ showing that you can get DXCC with just 500 milliwatts even during sunspot minimum.

In an email to the GQRP Yahoo group Paul G0WAT writes:

Ladies and Gentlemen,
It gives us (Nicolas M1HOG and I, Paul G0WAT) great pleasure to formally announce the inaugural meeting of the Home Counties QRP Circle.

It is to be called HogCon 2008 and is being held on the 21st of September in Stevenage in Hertfordshire.

To backtrack slightly...

Nicolas and I thought that there was a gap in the QRP universe for a local UK QRP Club.. while we both hold the G-QRP Club in the highest of esteem, there are no, to our knowledge, 'local' QRP Clubs in different parts of the UK.

In the USA there appears to be many of these.. Colorado QRP Club, New England QRP Club, North Texas QRP Club.. the list goes on... but in the UK similair ventures are sadly lacking.

We thought it would be fun to have a local club to meet up, chew the QRP cud, show and tell our latest projects and perhaps listen to a talk or two.

To further these rather noble aims we have set up (roll of drums).. The Home Counties QRP Circle (HCQRPC)

See our blog page...
http://www.hcqrpc.wordpress.com/

We humbly invite all of a like mind to join in and snaffle yourself a Hedgehog number (we've already got a few illustrious names on board)

To go one step on from this we thought it would be great to set a date and have a meet.. we have decided to call it HogCon.. a concatenation our club mascot 'the Hedgehog' and Convention.

HogCon has its own website.. http://www.hogcon.com/
Here you can find all the latest news on our plans.

HogCon 2008 is now full steam ahead with the following planned for the first meeting: -

A talk from Hans Summers G0UPL on 'QRSS and other adventures in extreme homebrew QRP'

Special Event Staion GB2QRP

A talk from Dom Bains M1KTA on "3B8/M1KTA QRP Expedition and other tales"

Plus show and tell for your latest projects. We hope people will find this a fun and edifying experience.

More information to follow.
Should this grab your fancy please let us know if you are likely to come along to join in the fun.. we would love to see you there.
