The Isle of Rockall

Rockall Expedition EU189

Andy Strangeway, aka Island Man, would like to invite those of you with a sense of adventure to join him on the Rockall Expedition 2009.

Andy says his three main objectives for the expedition are:

• For Radio Hams to activate Rockall, which is the most difficult island in the world to operate from. Previously, it has only ever been activated for 3 hours.

• For myself to spend at least one night on the island, without shelter. After sleeping on all the major Scottish islands, to me this is the ultimate challenge.

• For the Yorkshire flag to be raised atop of Rockall.

Interest is growing from radio ops. As time progresses, more definite details regarding possible ham radio activity from Rockall in 2009 will be made available. Currently, three operators are keen to go next year (but only two spaces so far available!)
