Confederate Submarine H.L. Hunleyon

A group of amateur radio operators in Charleston, South Carolina, will activate N4H from the site of the Confederate Submarine H.L. Hunleyon, September 19-20th.

The H.L. Hunleyon was raised on August 8th, 2000, and located at the Warren Lasch Conservation Center on the old Charleston navy base and is currently being preserved in a 90,000 gallon water tank as archeologists investigate the cause of the vessel's sinking.

The Hunley disappeared without a trace on a return journey after using a 135 lb. torpedo to sink the U.S.S. Housatonic four miles off the coast of Charleston, SC., on February 17th, 1864, making it "The World's First Successful Combat Submarine".

The special event station N4H will be on the air to commemorate this historic event and is expected to be on ALL bands 160-10 meters.

Operating times will be between 1300-2100z (may be extended).

A specially designed QSL card will be available. QSL via: Edward Padgett, PO Box 61362, North Charleston, SC 29419.

A donation of 2.00 USDs is required, no SASE is needed.
All proceeds after expenses will be donated to "The Friends of The Hunley for Research and Conservation".
