Passepartout3 APRS Digipeater Balloon OE0S/OE9HFV

Passepartout3 is a stratospheric balloon transmitting APRS on 144.390 MHz and 432.500 MHz FM that is planned to launch on Saturday August 22.

It is a collaborative project by the Austrian Space Forum (OeWF) and the Austrian Radio Amateur Association (OeVSV).

Start planned: Saturday, August 22, 2009, 08:00 UTC Observatory Lustbuehel, Graz-Waltendorf, JN77RB

In case of bad weather conditions (strong high winds) a postponement of the start to Sunday, August 23, is possible.

Passepartout3 will be active on the following frequencies:

144.390 MHz, OE9HFV, APRS(tm) beacon every minute,    MicroTrack, 0.3 W, Garmin GPS 18

432.500 MHz, OE0S, APRS(tm) digipeater and beacon
(1 min), OpenTracker2m, TH-7, 0.5 W,

The planned maximum height will be more than 30 km, as achieved with previous flights. The maximum area within direct sight will have a radius of more than 600 km. From a height of 20 km the radius is more than 500 km, covering an area reaching the following cities: Wroclaw, Krakow, Oradea, Sarajewo, Firenze, Milano, Zuric,  Nuernberg, Dresden.

In this area the reception of the beacons and the access to the digipeater should be possible for a period of half an hour to one hour. Due to high winds the area might be somewhat shifted.

All Amateurs are invited to make QSOs via the digipeater, preferably using the APRS(tm) Message Format. Because of the large area covered and the restricted power supply all users are asked to restrict the messages to report, QTH locator, and name (probably also the town). For the QSO over the largest distance a diploma will be available for the two stations involved.

The beacons will transmit position and height of the balloon with a time stamp and the data will be available real time in the internet ( e.g. http://aprs.fi/ ). Amateurs, who can provide an Igate on one or both frequencies are very welcome, in order to achieve a complete documentation of the flight track.
