Radio ham's planning victory

Amateur radio enthusiast David Given has won planning permission for a 9.5m radio antenna in the rear garden of his home in Littlecote Gardens, Appleton, near Warrington in Cheshire.

Parish councillors had objected on the grounds of visual impact, unneighbourly development, proximity of ancient woodland at the rear, and effect on television reception.

Letters of objection on similar grounds were also received from a neighbour but there were letters of support from the Radio Society of Great Britain and Warrington Amateur Radio Club.

But planning officers said there would be no impact on trees, nor television reception and recommended approval.
