UK Amateur Radio Licences as at 31st July 2009

The UK regulator Ofcom has supplied the figures for the total number of Amateur Radio Licences issued as at 31st July 2009

The July Full/Advanced figure shows a decline of 18 on the month. This is unusual since with a 5 year renewal period licences tend to stay in the records for several years even if the holder gives up the hobby or dies.

It should be remembered that these figures are for the number of licences issued not the number of stations.
UK Radio Amateurs and clubs can hold multiple licences.

It is believed that in the last few years a significant number of Full licence holders who let their licences lapse in the 1980’s and 90’s have been renewing them again.

The number of completely new Full licences can be inferred from the 2008 and 2009 Examination Committee Reports.
