Andaman Island earthquake

Let us hope that one effect of this disaster will be the
speeding up of reform of the Amateur Radio service in India where, as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, Amateurs need to get written permission every time they want
to move a rig from their home to a portable location.

Incidently, SSTL at the University of Surrey, run by Martin G3YJO, have been developing a disaster monitoring constellation of Low Earth Oribting satellites, one of their objectives will be the detection of Tsunami anywhere
in the world to provide early warning for coastal areas.

A number of Radio Amateurs have been working on this programme. The SSTL website is at http://www.sstl.co.uk/
