25th Anniversary ReunionThe Scout Association is hosting a '25th Anniversary Reunion' for all or any who attended 'WAJAM79' at Perry Lakes in December 1979 / January 1980 - the last function of the Sesquicentary year of WA. The VK6 Amateur fraternity mounted the largest amateur radio set-up ever seen in Australia, and this has not been challenged since - although Brisbane came close 3 years later. There were the usual two or three AR HF stations and a 2 metre FM/SSB set for any of the 11,000 customers to enjoy communication, HF 'glass RTTY' (Amtor) operating demonstration, two construction workshops, broadcast band radio 6SJ (with jamboree news and music, plus a split with commentary from the nightly stage productions) on 1310KHz and Jamboree TV on channel 34 (with footage from TV stations and local capture). A 2mx link was used between AR staff. A team of something like 140 people performed the functions required
to keep all these facilities operating for the eight days of the Jamboree
plus 2 or 3 days setting up and testing. Source: Wireless Institute of Australia
