RSGB engages PR professional
in the fight against PLT
The RSGB is to employ the services of a professional PR agent to address
the potential threat posed by the easing of standards to facilitate PLT.
The main thrust of the initiative is strategic and advisory, and should
also be seen as a learning experience for the Society.
The PR agent is a leading practitioner experienced in the field of corporate
communications for technical organisations. The brief for the Consultant
is to advise the Board on a PR strategy that will highlight the importance
of protecting the HF bands and present the wider case for preserving the
HF spectrum from interference.
The RSGB acknowledges that the public at large is not well informed about
our hobby or the long record of amateur radio in public service. Changing
the publics perceptions about amateur radio will be a long haul
and the RSGB needs professional assistance to formulate a communications
strategy and to set up lines of action to carry it through.
Whilst the RSGB is primarily a volunteer organisation, the judgement
of the Board is that this is one of those situations where professional
advice is essential.
