Ofcom spectrum review
challenges amateur radio future
Last weeks GB2RS news reported on Ofcoms Spectrum Framework
Review Consultation paper, which was released at the end of November.
The review lays down a number of ideas that could be introduced for the
future management of the radio spectrum.
A number of suggestions, if introduced, would affect the way that amateur
radio is administered in the United Kingdom. The RSGB is in discussions
with Ofcom and will be formally responding to the consultation.
The Society will be robustly defending against any changes to amateur
radio licensing that will disenfranchise the UK amateur radio community
or will adversely affect the long term future of amateur radio as a regulated
science-based hobby.
The Spectrum Framework Review paper is available on Ofcoms website
or you can obtain a paper copy direct from Ofcom. The RSGB recommends
that all UK amateurs have sight of the document and input into the consultation
process.
Your views and comments can be forwarded direct to Ofcom or via the RSGB:
ar.dept@rsgb.org.uk
The consultation closes on 15 February 2005.
