New move to encourage youth into electronics

Folk who are regular readers of AR may have read an article in the October edition, where the author, a professional in the electronics industry shared his concerns with regard to the current and next generation youth and what appears to be a lack of interest in taking up a careers in manufacturing and electronics.

Well in VK3 there has been a very positive move, a step in the right direction to help rectify this situation.

The Victorian Government has recognised the problem and has set in place some strategies to try and modify the common perception that a career in manufacturing and electronics is unappealing. They have announced what they call their Careers in Manufacturing or "CIM" strategy.

The Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development is currently wishing to appoint 10 Young Industry Ambassadors and electronics/ICT manufacturing is one of the five industry sectors that have been chosen for this program.

As Radio Amateurs, I believe it would be great if we could get behind the program and attract some suitable applicants that, in addition to their other qualities, also had an interest in Amateur Radio or were in the processes of obtaining their amateur radio license. It would be great not only for the YIA program, but also a huge opportunity to promote our hobby. Imagine how inspiring it would be if the young ambassador were able to be able to talk publicly about becoming interested in his/her career by virtue of an interest in Amateur radio.

Now THE important thing, you MUST enter by Wednesday of THIS WEEK! So hop to it!

For further information and to download a copy of the YIA application form visit the WIA national website and please do let us know here at WIA news if you or someone you know has been nominated for the position.
