Change to Hamnet emergency frequencies
From 1 January 2006, South Africa's Hamnet emergency frequencies
are going to change.
This change is necessitated by a decision taken at the recent IARU
Region 1 Conference, which was held in Davos, Switzerland in September.
At the Tampere Conference held in Finland in June, a suggestion
was made to establish specific emergency frequencies internationally
to ensure that emergency nets can be activated rapidly after any
international disaster.
At the Davos Conference, a workgroup ratified this suggestion and
the following frequencies were established as the Emergency Centre
of Activity for all Region 1 countries. The frequencies are as follows:-
15 m band - 21,360 MHz;
17 m band - 18,160 MHz;
20 m band - 14,300 MHz;
40 m band - 7,060 MHz;
80 m band - 3,760 MHz.
Initially we decided to maintain our 40 and 80 metre frequencies,
but after discussing this issue at the last Council meeting of the
South African Radio League (SARL), it was decided that Hamnet should
fall in line with this decision taken by the IARU Emergency Communication
Secretariat at Davos in September.
Please be guided accordingly.
