SA Amateur Radio Construction Competition 2006

The South African Amateur Radio Development Trust has announced the details of the 2006 Construction competition.

The competition is aimed at promoting design and construction of amateur radio related equipment. Entries are invited for the design and construction of an Antenna Tuner incorporating a SWR bridge. The competition is divided into two projects:

• A manual tuner
• An electronic tuner.

The competition will be run in two phases.
Phase 1 is a paper design with full specification.
Two designs will be selected in each category. The winners will be awarded R2 000 each for phase 2. Two runner-ups in each category will each receive a 2006 ARRL Handbook. Phase 2 comprises the construction of the equipment packaged in a suitable enclosure.

The winner of the manual category will win the Icom VC 8, which is a 2-metre handheld and the winner of the automatic category will receive the ICOM VC82. Both will also receive a certificate and a copy of the 2006 ARRL Handbook. Multisource Telecommunications have sponsored the prizes.

Full details are available on the web at www.amateurradio.org.za or may be requested from the Trust at saardt@intekom.co.za.
