2006 to be Amateur Radio Youth Year
In South Africa, 2006 will be Amateur Radio Youth Year, with the
focus being on bringing a younger age group into Amateur Radio.
South African Radio League President Graham Hartlett, ZS6GJH, announced
this last Sunday evening on the SARL President's Net.
A number of programmes are currently under development and will
be announced shortly. Watch SARL News for details and information
on how you and your club can participate and make the campaign a
huge success.
"This does not mean that we will not continue looking after
our current members", he said. "We need your support more
than ever before. You have experience in Amateur Radio and are valuable
mentors to the newcomers and the youth we are aiming to recruit.
"Our programme for next year will be based on a balanced approach;
the focus on youth will be an additional activity.
One of the questions we should ask ourselves is what motivated
me to become a radio amateur and will that activity motivate the
younger generation of today? I would welcome your input. Please
share your ideas with us. Send them to secretary@sarl.org.za".
