75 GHz to be subject to spectrum trading

Ofcom has published notice of proposal to amend the Wireless Telegraphy (Register) Regulations and the Wireless Telegraphy (Spectrum Trading) Regulations with regard to spectrum in the 71 - 76 GHz, 81 - 86 GHz and 64 - 66
GHz bands.

Further details can be found at:
http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/licensing7176/

As some of you may have spotted in the Amateur Radio IR 2028 document, it was planned that the 75.5 - 76 GHz Amateur and Amateur Satellite allocation would cease from 31st December 2006 (see Table C note 1).

Instead in November Ofcom announced that Radio Amateurs would have a Primary allocation from 75.875 - 76 GHz and a Secondary allocation from 75.5 -75.875 GHz, see http://www.southgatearc.org/news/november2006/
ofcom_implements_eu35.htm

Wednesday's announcement means that the Amateur Secondary 75.5 - 75.875 GHz allocation will be among the millimetric allocations that are Tradable. This indicates that the Primary user we share the spectrum with may change over time.

The statement does not appear to impact on the status of 75.875 - 76 GHz as a Primary Amateur and Amateur Satellite allocation.
