Buyer Beware!Allan VK2DQC has a word to the wise. Over the years we have warned of being vigilant when it comes to buying 'pre-loved' amateur radio gear. Now it seems, special care needs be taken when looking for that new rig or accessory from 'retailers'. Allan, through the mail, was about to make a quite substantial investment. The shop's letter-head led him to believe they even serviced radios etc. When the goods were finally ready for pickup, he set sail to the address to collect them, then discovered it was at a private address. Service claims on warranty would have meant shipping the goods to the manufacturer. Alarm bells sounded in Allan's head. VK2DQC walked away empty handed preferring to lose only the deposit. So... Before spending any substantial amount, check with the manufacturer to see who the current dealers or agents are. Source: Wireless Institute of Australia
