KiwiSAT project leader gives launch date as late 2008

There was some speculation that New Zealand's first Amateur Radio Satellite KiwiSAT might be flying as early as next May, however, KiwiSAT Project Leader Fred Kennedy ZL1BYP has clarified the situation.

It appears there has been some name confusion between KiwiSAT and and the Amateur CubeSat KitySat.

Although the KiwiSAT name along with KatySat appears
to be on a manifest for the May Russian Dnepr-1 launch, Fred has confirmed that KiwiSAT will definately not be flying until late 2008.

The Amateur Radio communications onboard KatySat will comprise a 70cm FM transmitter and 2 metre FM receiver, operating in half-duplex mode. It will use the AX.25 amateur packet protocol operating at 1200 bps for the uplink and
downlink.
