TMF Radio apologises for interrupting funeral with fireworks

The new Dutch station TMF Radio has published an apology on its website for interrupting a funeral on Wednesday.

Rapper Ali B launched the new station on Wednesday, with fireworks in the village of Staphorst, which was selected for the launch because it’s “the most boring place in the Netherlands” according to the station.

Unfortunately, the organisers had not been informed that, just a few hundred metres away, a funeral service was being held at the same time for a 19-year-old man.

TMF Radio says that, had it known that the funeral was taking place, it would have chosen another location for its launch out of respect for the deceased man and his relatives.

There was more bad news for TMF Radio when the local council in Staphorst sent a letter to the station, pointing out that the fireworks had been let off without the necessary permit, for which a fine is possible.

The council will also be sending the station a bill for the cost of cleaning up after the event.
