BBC, ITV, BT team up for broadband STBs

A report by James Welsh on DigitalSpy says that the BBC and ITV are to work with British Telecom (BT) on developing a common standard for the delivery of video on demand to digital TV set top boxes over broadband.

BT currently have a product called BT Vision that provides On-Demand TV. To get the broadband Internet signal from the telephone socket to the TV set they have been using Powerline Adadptors. Such devices transmit a broadband High Frequency radio signal into the mains power supply and can cause interference to radios over a wide area.
