Ofcom - Sensitivity of 2.7 GHz radars to 2.6 GHz transmissions

On Friday Ofcom published an information update on the sensitivity of radars in the 2.7 GHz band to future transmissions in the 2.6 GHz band.

The proposed use of 2 GHz spectrum for new applications raises questions about the possible impact on existing services. The information published by Ofcom looks at the potential for adjacent band interference to S-band radars operating at the lower end of the 2700 – 3100 MHz band.

The Ofcom announcement says:

This issue was raised in our April 2008 Statement on the 2.6GHz award.

Following this, more evidence became available and we published an update in March 2009 and in June 2009 we posted workshop material on the Ofcom website.

Further investigative work has since been carried out by Ofcom, the CAA, MCA and MOD. This latest update gives an overview of that work and our proposals for future handling.

The information update can be found at:

A briefing session will be held in Riverside House at 3pm to 4pm on Friday 18th December and a longer session, with a focus on the technical issues, is planned for the second half of January.
