XW-1 beacon reported world-wide

The telemetry beacon on the new Amateur Radio satellite XW-1 has been received around the world and the FM transponder has been tested.

The 200 mW CW beacon is on 435.790 MHz and puts out a good signal.

Bruce Robertson VE9QRP reported on the AMSAT Bulletin Board that he had received it using just a 1/4 wave vertical antenna, however, a small 70cm yagi with 7 or more elements will give more reliable results.

Michael Chen, BD5RV/4, has tested the FM transponder, he writes:
"I managed to operate the special event station BT3WX to work several E2, BY, VR2, XX9 throughout the evening pass of XW-1 using the FM transponder. It was the 1st test open of this bird's transponder. Everything works just great!"

It is usual practice with Amateur satellites (such as Delfi-C3) that there is a commissioning period which may last several months before transponders are made available for general use.
