Ham Radio Club begins 2011 with Berkeley Heights Kids Day eventsThe Amateur Radio Club serving the Watchung Hills area of New Jersey, will set up two operating ham radio stations in the Berkeley Heights Community Center on Sunday, January 2, for a special Kids Day event. The object of the Kids Day exercise is for youngsters to make as many contacts as possible. All participants receive a colorful certificate proving that they did make an actual contact and speak with another youngster somewhere in the country — even one contact earns a certificate of achievement from the Amateur Radio Club. Children of all ages who are residents of Berkeley Heights, New Providence and surrounding communities are invited to participate, and make direct radio contacts with other youngsters at ham stations around the U.S. On past Kids Days, youngsters have made contacts around the eastern U.S.; as far west as Oklahoma, Colorado and California; and to foreign countries such as Ireland and Australia. This year, the club expects to make contacts with stations in Malta, Israel, and in Europe. The radio equipment and antennas will be supplied by club members early on Sunday. Kids’ operation starts at 2 p.m. and continues until 5 p.m. Read the full story at:
