Amateur Radio Society issues commemorative stampThe Gulf Times reports that the Qatar Amateur Radio Society (QARS) has issued a commemorative postal stamp yesterday. The stamp represents the most important achievement of the society - hosting of the regional conference on amateur radio in April 2010 in the Middle East. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry and the board chairman of the QARS HE Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah said that after a wonderful success of the conference the society was keen to issue a special postal stamp that carried its logo and the logo of the International Federation of Amateur Radio to mark the event. The department of stamps affairs at Postal Corporation in co-ordination with the QARS designed and issued the new stamp which will be used by the corporation’s customers. HE al-Attiyah said amateur radio societies worldwide were developing fast and their memberships were rising despite a threat from the advancement in communication technology. He described this hobby as very important in creating friendships, spreading the culture of peace, love and humanitarian services. The membership of QARS has reached more than 500 and is expected to increase steadily during the coming years.
