Ericsson to use aacPlus software

Coding Technologies announced today that Ericsson has licensed Coding Technologies' Enhanced aacPlus (aka aacPlus v2) implementations for various signal processor platforms. Ericsson Mobile Platform will incorporate this software to offer market leading mobile phone platforms including aacPlus.

"Ericsson products have a reputation of being best-in-class", said Oliver Kunz, VP Strategic Marketing at Coding Technologies. "We are proud that Ericsson selected our software to add important multimedia features to Ericsson's mobile phone platforms."

aacPlus is AAC coupled with Coding Technologies' SBR (Spectral Band Replication) and Parametric Stereo technologies. SBR is a unique bandwidth extension technique, which enables audio codecs to deliver the same quality at half the bit rate. Parametric Stereo enhances the codec efficiency a second time for low-bit-rate stereo signals. Both SBR and Parametric Stereo are backward and forward compatible methods to enhance the efficiency of any audio codec. As a result, aacPlus delivers CD-quality stereo at 48 kbps, near-CD quality stereo at 32 kbps, and excellent quality stereo at 24 kbps. This level of efficiency fundamentally enables new applications in the markets of mobile multimedia and music distribution.

Coding Technologies provides the best audio compression for mobile, broadcasting, and Internet. SBR™ (Spectral Band Replication) is a backward and forward compatible method to enhance the efficiency of any audio codec.

Parametric Stereo from Coding Technologies and Philips again significantly increases the efficiency of audio codecs for stereo signals at low bit rates. Products from Coding Technologies are fundamental enablers of open standards such as MPEG, 3GPP, Digital Radio Mondiale and DVB.
