New FM radio station for Kidderminster

Ofcom have announced the award of the new FM local commercial radio licence for Kidderminster.

By the closing date of 18 November 2004, Ofcom received three applications for the Kidderminster licence. After giving careful consideration to each of the applications submitted, the Ofcom Radio Licensing Committee has decided to award the licence to:

ACE FM -
contact: Rob Ison, Director, Ace FM,
The Management Suite, The Swan Centre, 6 King Charles Square, Kidderminster DY10 2BA, tel: 01562 741072,
email: rob@acefm.co.uk.

ACE FM is owned by MNA Broadcasting Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Midlands News Association Limited. It will provide a locally-focused music, news and information service for 25-54 year olds in the Kidderminster area.

The licence is for a service to cover the town of Kidderminster and surrounding area which has an adult population (aged 15+) of around 100,000. However, the exact coverage will be determined by the location of the transmission site and other technical characteristics.

Ofcom expects ACE FM to begin broadcasting at the earliest opportunity and no later than two years from this award date.

Ofcom will publish a statement setting out the key determining factors for the award of this licence shortly.

The licence will be issued for a twelve year period.
