Weather Satellites by Andy Tyler G1GKN

The next meeting of the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society (CARS) on Tuesday 7th March features a talk by Andy Tyler, G1GKN on Weather Satellites.

Andy’s talk will cover:

· A brief history of weather satellites from the early 1960's to the present.

· What's up there - A description of current weather satellites and the technical challenge of receiving them.

· Reception equipment - Receivers, Antennas, Computers and Software.

· The future - The first all-digital weather satellite due for launch this year.

There should also be a live demonstration of the reception of weather pictures. This will be dependent on a suitable orbit, at present this looks like NOAA 17 at around 21:41pm.

The talk will be held at the Marconi Social Club (MASC), Beehive Lane, Great Baddow, Chelmsford, CM2 9RX. The doors open at 7:15pm and visitors are most welcome. Car parking is free and a bar is available for refreshments.
