An Australian
Roadtrain |
What's in a name?
Bruiser, Indiana, Sooty, Michael the Crazy Irishman, Freewheeling Hub,
Mad Dog, Peter, Paul (and we're still lookin' for Mary). And what about
'The Black Stump'... we could make up a complete story on him, alone!
You see, these fellows are also Radio Amateurs, and
there's a couple of hundred of them out there. There's even a story about
a legend driving a Roadtrain between outback Queensland and Darwin with
a full size 80 metre inverted vee slung between the trailers!
These blokes even have an 'Aussie Truck Driving Hams Registry' www.indy-rosser.name/truckies-registry/
Now I've known Indy for quite a while and can assure you that even though
he may look a bit strange, possibly as a result of his 'other' occupation
as a part-time Linux guru, within beats a heart of gold. He's set up this
page to initially provide a forum and/or contact point and registry of
truck drivers who are Amateur (Ham) Radio enthusiasts in Australia.
 |
In time, it is hoped that this site will contain a registry of many,
if not all, 'Ham Truckies' throughout the nation.
If you fit the bill, you control whether you're on this site, and you
control how much information is available to the rest of us and the public
at large.
There are a few already added to give the list a kick off and to show
that what goes up there is only what YOU want.
Indy's email address: indy@six.net.au
And by the way.... for the rest of us, next time you see a truckie headin'
on down the highway, remember they're the guys that keep the nation moving,
and just maybe, you could give 'em a call on your 2 metre radio sometime
and tell 'em you think they're doing a great job!
You never know ...... that great big bloke up in the cab could
be an Amateur Radio Operator too!
