Up to 160 jobs to go at Television New Zealand

Television New Zealand is to cut up to 160 jobs as part of a restructuring process.

TVNZ’s Chief Executive Rick Ellis issued a memo notifying staff of the cuts on Monday, Radio New Zealand reported. They include abut 50 positions from news and current affairs.

A TVNZ spokesperson said the numbers were an estimate and it hoped to be able to confirm the details in late April or May.

“We ‘guestimate’ that at the end of this process between 140 and 160 roles will be made redundant. These will be spread across the organisation,” Mr Ellis said in the memo.

About a third of TVNZ’s 1000-plus staff are in news and current affairs, and Mr Ellis said he expected about a third of the job losses would come from there.
