Ofcom statement on Digital PMR 446 licence exemption

On Monday the UK regulator Ofcom issued a statement on licence exemption for Digital PMR 446 radios.

The statement concluded:

Licence-exemption is therefore the preferred option to authorise the use of digital PMR 446 equipment in the UK. The analysis of this equipment shows that there is minimal risk of interference to other users of the radio spectrum; this approach is in line with our regulatory duties and also meets the demands of EC requirements providing the following benefits:

• Reduction of the regulatory burden; and • Introduction of innovative applications and new technologies.
