Techkriti 2008Rahul VU3WJM provides a report on the Techkriti 2008 Techfest held from 14-17th Febraury at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Videos of the event are available on YouTube. Rahul writes: Techkriti annual techfest of India's premier tech institute IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Kanpur was flagged off on 14th Feb in presence of noble lauretes and an amazing performance from Feeding the Fish: Amazing and breathless rendring of AR Rehmans Vandematram in exotic visuals was the silver lining. 15th: Morning session saw presentation by VU2MUE Sandeep my good friend who came all the way from N Delhi to present a lecture on evolution on comm technology and a special demo on APRS sytem. Students were amazed to track him while he roamed about on a bicycle in the vast campus. This was followed by a lecture on workshop project a SDR transceiver based on works of YU1LM compiled by me and put on a single board. Amogst us we had a guest a visitor from Cranes Software Mr Md Khaja Khutbuddin sponsors for the SDR workshop but a leader in hi tech field of evolving SDR defence platform. Post lunch session was devoted to SDR workshop where 20 teams each compromising of 2 members sat down to assemble a kit of their own. Target was to make an 80 meter SDR TRX all mode, at the end of day we finished with some 20 working units and 40 happy faces. 16th saw a very educative presentaion from the sponsors Cranes Software. Parallel to this another activity was taking place Fox hunt each day comprised of 8-10 rounds each round comrising of about 7 teams each again of 3-4 participants phew very exhaustive but more tha 400 students from all over the country participated in this event. Some videos can be seen on You Tube courtsey our good friend Sandeep VU2MUE here: 17th Final day saw delivery of complete SDR TRX and final rounds of Fox hunt, it was nail biting event with teams fighting against time to trackdown multiple moving foxes. My god did the teams slog out in IIT K vast campus, my salam to their spirits. Evening come it was relaxing time in company of the famous pak band touring our country STRINGs. Night saw everyone calling Byes with a heavy heart but with a fond memory of some very educative thrilling and memorable time of our lives. We all are highly obliged to IIT K for having trust in us.
