Disaster blueprint needed

In what has been hailed as a great public demo of what hams are made of, hams from all over VU joined in the effort to maintain communications.

Not all were able to go to the disaster areas, but the ones who stayed at home and relayed, and made phone calls to get the information across and back, were an equally important cog in the whole system.

However one thing was made very apparent, according to Gopal VU2GMN, amateurs were not all equipped or trained to do disaster work.

There is need for a blueprint which includes gear that needs to be kept ready like portable antennae, power cords for rigs that can be attached to any source of power.

It should not be necessary for anyone to take anything down from their home stations to move, as the home station also has to be in a state of readiness. All that one should have to take should be the rigs themselves!

VU2GMN went on with his observation,
"There is a lot that needs to be done if we are to be more effective - let's do it!"
