Ofcom Amateur Radio Licensing Consultation - Statement Mid-Feb

The results of the Ofcom Amateur Radio Licensing consultation have been eagerly
awaited.

This consultation attracted a record number of responses, over 1400, far
exceeding anything else Ofcom have had. The Amateur Radio community should be proud of acheiving such a response.

The sheer volume of responses has meant that analysis has taken longer than Ofcom expected. Ofcom now say they are hoping to make the policy announcement mid February.

There has been speculation that Ofcom will adopt a similar approach to Amateur licencing to that which they have announced for Maritime, see

This may result in an Amateur licence that is renewable online free of charge every 10 years. Similar systems are being adopted for Amateur licensing by an increasing number of countries around the world.

Will that happen here ?
We will have to wait another month to find out.
