ARISS Event - Peterson Elementary

The next International Space Station's Expedition 12 ARISS school contact will be with students at Peterson Elementary in Red Springs, North Carolina, USA on Monday, 09 January 2006. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 16:39 UTC.

This contact will be telebridged between stations NA1SS and VK5ZAI in Australia. It should be audible to anyone in the Southeastern portions of Australia listening in on the 145.80 MHz downlink. Audio will also be provided via the following sources:

Peterson Elementary School has approximately 654 students. Ninety percent of these students are on free or reduced lunch. The student population is diverse: 32% are American Indian, 35% are Afro-American, 19% are Hispanic/Latino, 10% are Caucasian, and 4% are Multi-Racial. The School is
located in Robeson County, a rural farming area.

11. What do you eat while you are in the space station?
12. How does Earth look from space during the day and night?
13. How do you spend your free time?
14. How do you brush your teeth in space?
15. Do germs live in space?
16. Can you see the Earth rotate?
17. What has been the best part of your trip?
18. How fast do you travel in space?
19. What have you learned so far during this trip?
20. What qualifications does your job require?

ARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering the participating space agencies, NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA, CNES, JAXA, and CSA, with the AMSAT and IARU organizations from participating countries.
ARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by talking directly with crewmembers on-board the International Space Station.

Teachers, parents and communities see, first hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can energize youngsters' interest in science, technology, and learning.
