HARC Special Event Station for A1 Grand
Prix
Last year, Durban was selected as the venue for the first A1 Grand
Prix event to be hosted in South Africa - one of only 12 nations
to host a round of the inaugural A1 GP series.
The event will be held on the Durban beachfront in the vicinity
of the Suncoast Casino on 27-29 January 2006. The last international
motor sport event to be held in KwaZulu Natal was held at Roy Hesketh
circuit in Pietermaritzburg in the early 1980's.
The HARC will be operating a special event station for the weekend
of the A1 Grand Prix, (and on other special occasions during 2006),
on the HF bands and via IRLP node 8300.
A special QSL card will be sent to each station who makes contact
with the station during 2006. So, if you want one of these limited
edition cards for the shack wall, listen out for ZS5A1GP on their
VHF/UHF repeaters and HF (phone and CW). ICASA has confirmed the
allocation of this callsign.
QSL information is:
They are still awaiting confirmation of their callsign for this
event, but are hoping to be allocated ZS5A1GP.
Their repeater team is working on a VHF repeater linked to the
UHF network to provide handheld UHF and VHF access to the IRLP from
the race track. The VHF repeater will operate on 145,762 5/145,162
5 Mhz with a 107,2 Hz CTCSS tone and the UHF repeater is on 439,275/431,675
MHz with a 136,5 Hz CTCSS tone.
Please make every effort to be radio active on their local VHF/UHF
repeaters and HF (if possible) over the A1 weekend.
