Radio pirates relaying Howard Stern's satellite show on FM

Perhaps we should have expected this. At the end of the first week of Howard Stern's new show on Sirius Satellite Radio, pirate broadcasters are popping up on the FM band, relaying the Stern show.

Yesterday's New York Daily News reports broadcasts on 95.1 FM in New York and 101.5 FM in New Jersey. Not only are these illegal transmissions, but they also include profanities which are banned under the law on terrestrial stations, but the ban does not (yet) extend to satellite radio.

A spokesman for the Federal Communications Commission said the FCC takes pirate broadcasting "very seriously," but admitted it has no power over what Stern says on the satellite service.

Sirius, meanwhile, has chosen not to comment on the issue for the time being
