IARUMS chalks-up some success with
China
The IARUMS Region 3 has chalked up some success with problems caused
by China on the HF bands.
Glenn Dunstan VK4DU, the National Intruder Watch Coordinator for
the Wireless Institute of Australia reports that the wide band noise
on 40 and 80 metres will soon be something of the past.
The Australian Regulator has identified the noise to a location
on the Chinese coast. The Chinese authorities have agreed to take
action.
In South Africa, we are still experiencing broadband noise on the
40-metre band from a Zimbabwean Jamming Station. The station appears
to become spurious and radiates a wide band of signals that stretch
from 7 230 KHz right down to 7 000 kHz. The jamming signal is a
typical BRRRRRRR, like a 50-Hertz hum.
The SARL IARU Monitoring System needs reports from as many locations
as possible. When you come across a higher than normal noise level,
like a mains hum, tune across the band until you hit the main frequency
somewhere higher up in the 40 metres band. Record the frequency
and time as well as the spread of the signal, particularly in the
amateur radio allocation.
Please mail your report to IARUMS@sarl.org.za.
