KC8VKZ sole survivor in coal mine disaster

Dear Friends

In the recent coal mine disaster in West Virginia, USA the only survivor, rescued after 40 hours after the incident which killed 12 others, was an Amateur (Ham) Radio Licencee - Randal L. McCloy Jr, with callsign KC8VKZ

(Doctors say lone survivor Randy McCloy is suffering from severe dehydration and a collapsed lung. The 27-year-old is being sedated and remains in a critical condition - CNN)
