Summits on the Air (SOTA)

A new year brings new challenges. The Secunda Amateur Radio Club wants to share this joy with you by getting the SOTA program more active in South Africa.

A few members intend to activate Glen Paul (Arendkop), SOTA reference FS-007, near Harrismith on Saturday 28 January. Sid, ZS6AYC, Tom, ZS6TMO, and Detlev, ZS6BAB, will be active from ±09:00 on 7,065 MHz, 14,165 MHz en 145,500 MHz. Please give them a contact.

SOTA is an international program that encourages amateur radio operation from the summits of hills and mountains.

Activators are people who transmit from the summits. Chasers are the people who contact the activators. SWL's can also participate by logging the QSO's between activators and chasers.

For each of the 3 groups there are guidelines and awards. This information can be found at www.sota.org.uk and the RSA specific information at www.qsl.net/sotasa. There are more than 300 qualifying summits in the RSA.
