CARS
member starts community radio station
Chelmsford Calling is a new, not-for-profit,
community FM radio station run by Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society (CARS)
member Jim Salmon M3RMI and Ann.
Jim has run a broadcast station four times in the FM band since 2001
under a Restricted Service Licence (RSL) and in 2006 he was awarded a
Community Radio Licence by Ofcom.
On the 23rd December the station commenced broadcasting from Chelmsford,
the Birthplace of Radio, on 104.4 MHz running just 10 watts ERP, although
the Ofcom licence permits up to 25 watts.
Signal reports are welcome and should be sent to

Jim decided to take up Amateur Radio after attending a talk at CARS about
Radio Caroline given by one of the club members G3PEM who was Radio Engineer
on both Carolines North and South. He immediately signed up for the Foundation
course run by CARS and got his Amateur Radio licence.
