Barry achieves 'Mountain Goat' status

Barry Horning GM4TOE achieved 'Mountain Goat' status in the Summits on the Air (SOTA) programme with an activation of Carn na Loine GM/CS-105, 1800 feet above sea level, on 30th December 2006.

Barry took 154 SOTA activations to reach the 1000-point landmark, a relatively low number, but he mainly focussed on high points value summits, averaging around 900m or about 3000 feet above sea level.

He has certainly put some miles in as well, with long approaches along estate tracks being required before clmbing up onto the fells.

Barry has mainly used 7MHz SSB and 5MHz (NoV) SSB for
his SOTA operations.

The SOTA Management Team congratulates Barry on his
achievement.
