VU7RG
Lakshadweep Islands DXpedition is on
The VU7RG DXpedition to Lakshadweep Islands
in the Indian Ocean, sponsored by the National Institute of Amateur Radio
(NIAR) in India and scheduled for January 14 through 31, has now been
on-air for almost a week, with plenty of activity heard from the VU7RG
teams on all four islands.
Lakshadweep Islands are 2nd most wanted entity on the DXCC List!
The activity is taking place from four islands – Agatti, Bangaram,
and Kadmat, using the call sign VU7RG, while
a separate all-Indian team is operating as VU7MY
from Minicoy Island.
This is the first ever large scale DXpedition operation including foreign
operators - and probably the biggest real expedition of all time - and
includes 50 Indian and foreign operators. As usual, operation is being
conducted on all bands and modes.
Plans called for having up to 14 stations on the air from the four islands.Yaesu
has provided tvelve FT2000 transceivers and six 1 kW amplifiers.
The RG suffix of VU7RG is in memory of the assassinated Prime Minister
of India, Rajiv Gandhi, who was a licensed amateur radio operator himself
as VU2RG.
